Mt.Elgon Donkey Farmers find relief as Ripple Effect Sets Foot in The Region
Mt.Elgon farmers have expressed their gratitude towards Ripple Effect and Brooke which are Non- Governmental Organizations focusing on the health and welfare of donkeys within Kenya’s Nyanza and Western Regions.
Speaking with The Times Newspaper, Terrah Kwalia a farmer who owns a 36 years old donkey among other 4 said that the organization has played a big role in diversifying farmers knowledge on donkey matters.
“Before the coming of Ripple Effect many of us did not know about the benefits of donkeys other than having them carry firewood, water and farm produce to and from our farms,” explained Kwalia.
He further explained that he is a proud beneficiary of donkeys since his childhood as has seen his parents take him through school and maintain their family through finances gotten from the beast of burden.
“Not only have donkeys been a source of income to our family but also a rich source of nutritious milk especially for our children,” explained Kwalia.

It is no doubt that donkeys have been one of the most underrated domesticated animals not only in Mt.Elgon region but within the vast Western region.
As a matter of fact, numerous cases of stolen, overworked and or injured donkeys is tangible evidence that most people do not value the beast of burden or give it the care and love it so deserves.
Ripple Effect on its capacity has played a big role in creating awareness and providing free services and training to veterinarians and farmers within its reach in the quest to change this narrative.
