The Member of parliament for Mwingi Central calls on the ministry of Health in conjunction with the ministry of education to immediately close Ukasi Girls High school in Mwingi Central Constituency, Kitui County.

This is after 55 students and two teachers have been hospitalized having contracted Corona virus.

The community and the school are terrified after the 55 got quarantined at the school precincts.

According to Hon Gideon Mulyungi, the total population of the institution is 350 and they are all at risk of testing positive as it’s a norm of students sharing stationeries and textbooks.

He said three students who were hospitalized have been discharged.

He stated that by yesterday the bill had hit Kshs. 200, 000 for students’ medication under quarantine.

“I’m appealing to the ministry of health to take swift measures to prevent further spread of the disease in Ukasi Girls High School. Kitui is second nationally in number of infections and there’s insufficiency of oxygen in county hospitals,” said Mulyungi.

Mulyungi has urged the ministry of health to conduct mass vaccination in Kitui school for students, teachers and non teaching staffs.

“The minister of Health Dr. George Magoha should consider temporarily closure of Ukasi Girls. Let all those who have tested negative of the virus sent home while those with it retained in the school for quarantine to prevent further spread to the parents and siblings,” he added.

He called on the county and national government to facilitate fumigation and sanitization booths in the school and community.
