Nairobi County, NMS to offer Christmas to those in slums

The county of Nairobi in conjunction with the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) have flagged off 24 tonnes of food stuffs to benefit the less privileged in slums.

The 500,000 bales of maize flour and other 500,000 bales of wheat flour will be distributed to already identified vulnerable families across the county.

According to the NMS Director General Mohamed Badi, the distribution will be done in conjunction with local area leaders to ensure that the donations reach right full beneficiaries.

Badi was flanked by acting Nairobi Governor Benson Mutura who pointed out that the elaborate plan to feed the slum residents and those in under privileged areas will be facilitated by the Disaster Preparedness and Management unit.

With the currents state of economy households have been hit hard due to reduced job opportunities and lower earnings.

Unemployment almost doubled compared with pre- covid levels. Remittances have reduced and only a few households have benefited from direct cash assistance.
