Nairobi Speaker Narrowly Escapes Train Accident, Driver Injured

– A lead car in the Speaker’s convoy was hit by a train at the level – crossing at Kabanzora in Embakasi Sub-County injuring the driver.

– Escort officers had just picked him from his house and they were driving to the office when the accident happened.

Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Ken Ng’ondi on Monday morning narrowly escaped a train crash in which a driver in his convoy sustained injuries.

A lead car in the Speaker’s convoy was hit by a train at the level – crossing at Kabanzora in Embakasi Sub-County injuring the driver. He was admitted in hospital.

The car was extensively damaged in the accident involving a passenger train. Speaking to The Times on phone, Speaker Ng’ondi said his car was behind the lead car when the accident occured.

The accident happened early in the morning on April 24, 2023 while the Speaker was headed to the office. It involved the official car although he was in a different one.

“Today morning after I left my house for work, the official car which happens to be the lead car was crossing the railway at Kabanzora area in Embakasi”, said the Nairobi Speaker.

“It seems the driver did not hear the train hooting as he approached the level – crossing. This is something that happened as we watched as it is quite unfortunate”, Mr Ng’ondi explained.

The escort officers had just picked him and they were driving to the office when the accident happened injuring the driver of the front car in his convoy.
