The National Peace Consortium Has been Launched in Nairobi.

Addressing the media after the launch, the Consortium’s leader Dr Hassan Kinyua Omari said that a number of organizations, dealing with matters of peace, decided to get together and offer a bigger voice in addressing issues concerning peace.

‘Over time, due to the social-political and economic situation in our country, Kenya, we face great challenges maintaining Sustainable Peace. Poverty, hunger, disease, ignorance and social decay has continued to grow at an alarming rate. Most of these challenges are rarely or inadequately addressed. This has made achieving meaningful and genuine peace very difficult.’ Dr Kinyu said.

The National Chairman of NUMCA further said that the rationale behind the formation of National Peace Consortium can best be summarized in the words of Allah the Almighty who teaches, “And hold fast all together by the rope which Allah (stretches out for you) and be not divided among yourselves, and remember with gratitude Allah’s favor on you; for ye were enemies and He joined your hearts in love so that by His grace ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of fire and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make his signs clear to you: that ye may be guided” (Quran, 3:103).

‘The members of National Peace Consortium ascribe to the need to develop homegrown solutions to the
problems we have and integrate these solutions in our social systems in order to institutionalize them as our way of life.’ he added.

Speaking at the event, Bura Member of Parliament who also accepted to be the Consortium’s patron asked that matters of peace have not been given the focus it deserves urging Kenyans not only to remain united but also to ensure they coexist peacefully.

‘Kenyans in the diaspora can wait for Ugali to be cooked for them and the love of it always has them united. Why can’t we embrace such unity in Kenya?’ Hon Wario posed.

He also said that the education syllabus must be changed so as to include peace teaching.
