Nyali MP says won’t be intimidated by arrests of his fellow Tangatanga legislators

Legislators allied to embattled Deputy President William Ruto vowed never to be deterred by harassment and arrest by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

Outspoken Nyali MP Mohamed Ali alias Jicho Pevu said they are prepared to be arrested and challenged the government to organize more space in police cells for them.

He condemned the manner in which his Mathira counterpart Rigathi Gachagua was arrested saying it was uncalled for.

“The move to arrest Gachagua is meant to intimidate him through spending his weekend as a guest of the state,” he pointed out.

He spoke during a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) forum for the party’s aspirants and coordinators held at UDA Mombasa offices in Mvita constituency, Mombasa county.

The legislator said the arrest of his colleague is cheap politics with the government intending to release him after spending his weekend in police custody.

Jicho Pevu pointed out that the current political move by the government against UDA party is not fair.

He accused the government of frustrating the hustler movement.

He demanded the government to allow a level political playing field without taking actions intended to frustrate the party.

“Let the government allow equal space for all political parties to conduct their affairs freely as enshrined in the 2010 constitution,” he pointed out.

The lawmaker asked the government to stop intimidating legislators allied to embattled Deputy President William Ruto’s camp through arresting them.

Jicho Pevu described President Kenyatta’s regime as dictatorial compared to the past two regimes.

“There is a scheme to also arrest me but they lack the strategy on how to do so,” he pointed out.
