As youths continue to complain about lack of jobs in the country, one entrepreneur has come up with a solution geared towards utilising locally sourced materials to create employment and empower people.

Times Digital exclusively spoke with Kimani Charles commonly known as Kimani wa Makaratasi. Here is what he had to say:

“Am Kimani Charles commonly known as “Kimani wa Makaratasi“, entrepreneur , innovator and Director Jamii products ltd .The firm is a cottage industry  which deals with six different khaki papers Products names; packing bags, Envelopes, Book covers , popcorn bags, Gift bags ,Cake boxes and branding part. Hence no Machines just hands .

Recycling is an excellent way of saving the environment,70% less energy is required to recycle paper compared to making it from the raw materials .

Climate change is here with us and it’s inevitable. How best can we mitigate and* what are the interventions you are bringing across.

Yes ,we can mitigate through retrofitting buildings to make them more energy efficient, adopting renewable energy sources like solar ,wind and small hydro ; helping cities develop more sustainable transport such as bus rapid transit, electronic vehicles which I believe the Government is working on that project and Biofuels and promoting more sustainable use of land and forest, for our case ,we have 100% recycling process in our company. No khaki paper waste .

The aspect of sustainability in respect to materials you use:

As we all know a warming planet is a major challenge for sustainability, human activities that contribute to the climate change are doing injustice to themselves and generations to come ,that why in our Firm we recycle any waste to  a new product like Egg trays or Ceiling for roof ,we do it intentionally for Green environment awareness.

The people you’ve helped.

Between 8,000-10,000 people,

May it in prisons, Disabilities centres, schools , community level ,Care Givers mother’s  in East and Central Africa region.

Call to the government

I will challenge the citizens to help the State to achieve it’s plan for planting 15 billions trees by 2032 .

Jamii products will work closely with like minded individuals or  organizations that has Empowerment, Job creation and Green environment awareness and their pillars .
