Nairobi County’s liaison officer, Osman Khalif, has been arrested in connection with alleged extortion from Chinese investors and money laundering activities.

He was arrested yesterday by DCI and he is being held at Gigiri police station.

Khalif, a former Member of County Assembly (MCA), is currently embroiled in a corruption scandal where he is accused of facilitating contracts between interested parties and the county government in exchange for bribes. An anonymous Nairobi businessman disclosed that Khalif reportedly charges anywhere from Ksh 100,000 to 200,000 from individuals seeking county contracts, falsely promising to expedite their pre-qualification process, which should be a free service provided by the county.

Notably, Osman Khalif, a close associate of Governor Johnson Sakaja, found himself in the spotlight last month when Nairobi County Assembly Majority Leader Peter Imwatok Jateso raised concerns about alleged harassment and threats directed at senior county administration staff. Khalif faces accusations of invoking the governor’s name while intimidating these employees.

These unfolding allegations have created a tense political atmosphere in Nairobi, with many closely monitoring the situation to see how this controversy, involving a prominent ally of Governor Sakaja, will ultimately be resolved.

The implications of these developments on the local political landscape are of considerable interest to observers and stakeholders alike.
