President Elect William Ruto has been urged to give blue economy priority in his administration.

Maritime Wages Council chairman Mwinyi Jahazi pointed out  they  were assured during the campaign period that the blue economy and seafarers’ welfare will be in his administration.

He added they had a round-table session with Ruto during his presidential campaigns and he assured them he will give the issues priority when he wins in the election.

“Ruto is now the winner and we are optimistic he will officially launch the long-awaited board to be fully functional,” he pointed out.

Jahazi regretted that after the establishment of the council under the Labour ministry it has not been operational.

He was speaking at the Mombasa county council of elders’ office at Uhuru Na Kazi building in Mombasa county.

The Maritime Wages Council chairman congratulated Ruto for succeeding outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta after the supreme court upheld his election in the August 9 polls.

Jahazi said Ruto’s administration will give their council a thumbs up  to cater for the interests of the seafarers which is overdue.

He told journalists the move will be in line with the Maritime Labour Convention of 2006.

“The enactment of the Maritime Labour Convention will cater for the interests and welfare of the seafarers,” he pointed out.
