Rebecca Naanyu Masikonte is not your ordinary politician.

She is a born leader. She is strong-willed, determined, focused and visionary. Honourable Rebecca is eyeing the Narok North Parliamentary Seat on The Service Party (TSP) ticket.

“My number one priority in Narok is roads. We have very poor infrastructure despite being a food basket which has worked to dilute the efforts of our farmers and their toil. The agricultural produce is sold away at throw away prices owing to poor road network. I’m going to change this scenario.”

Armed with more than 15 years in leadership as a Legislator on the platform of Nominated MCA and consequently Deputy Majority Leader in Narok County Assembly, Honorable Rebecca alludes she has what it takes to transform Narok North to be a constituency of benchmark owing to the transformation it will undergo under her wise leadership.

Her other main pillars of focus, she says is on education, healthcare and job creation especially for women and youths since they are the marginalised. ‘We have educated graduates but they have remained desperate owing to lack of jobs.

I will petition the Narok County Assembly to absorb at least two youths per ward so that they can better their lives and bring about the change we want. I’m also an advocate of women rights especially when it comes to land ownership and access to credit. I’m a living example and I want to use this as a tool to empower women and remove the shackle and chains of outdated cultural practices which have made them remain impoverished.”

We also sought to know what approach she will apply when it comes to the issue of early marriages and Female Genital Mutilation.

“I will work closely with the communities in a bid to create awareness for them to shun these outdated practises that have bedevilled our girls “

Honorable Naanyu also believes in value additio especially for both livestock and crop farmers. “I will do this by attracting investors so that they can employ our youths to the tune of 70%and in turn make the best out of our constituency. The investor can put up abattoirs so that instead of selling the livestock whole it can be sold as meat and even exported to neighbouring countries where it will fetch more money.”

Her parting shot is to the people of Narok North to make the wise decision and elect her. “Since independence almost 60 years ago, the leadership of Narok North has been dominated by men and we haven’t seen any meaningful development.

It’s a time to elect a woman in the name of Rebecca Naanyu Masikonte because in our community we say once you empower a woman you empower an entire community. We have also seen demonstrated leadership in women such as Alice Wahome in Kandara, Naisula Lesuuda and they have done marvelous.”
