Senators Attend Induction Retreat In Nakuru

Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court Martha Koome will address Senators on emerging jurisprudence on Kenya’s devolved governance

Senate Speaker Rt.Hon. Amason Kingi will this Tuesday open a 5-day induction retreat for Senators at Nakuru County.

The theme of the retreat is : Understanding the mandate of the Senate (on) Strengthening Devolution through Legislative agenda.

During the induction, Senators will be taken through detailed and elaborate discussions by various speakers from both Government and the private sector.

Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, Martha Koome is among key speakers expected at the induction. She will address emerging jurisprudence on Kenya’s devolved governance.

In the discussions, Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa will apprise Senators on the linkage between Senate and County Governments.

Other guests invited to the Senators’ induction retreat include Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Ukur Yatani, Attorney General, Kihara Kariuki, Former Senate Speaker Hon. Ekwee Ethuro, the chairperson of the Council of Governors, Governor Anne Waiguru, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary, Amb. Rachael Omamo, the Director General, National Intelligence Service, Major General (Rtd) Philip Kameru, and USAID Mission Director, Mr David Gosney, amongst others.

The Clerk of the Senate Mr. Jeremiah Nyegenye, will lead other senior parliamentary staff as key internal resource persons at the induction retreat.

Senators will also be taken through various topical discussions including the relationship between the Senate and Constitutional Commissions, Budget approval process and the role of Senate, the role of development partners in Devolution, media engagement and public awareness, as well as legislative and committee business in the Senate.
