Spectators have been banned from attending the replay of a basketball match between Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Equity Bank to be held at a later date at Makande Welfare hall in Mombasa county.

This follows the abandonment of a Kenya Basketball Federation [KBF] best of five series match between the two teams a minute before the final whistle.

KBF Secretary General Ambrose Kisoi said the decision to order for a replay of the match followed an appeal letter written to them by Equity Bank.

He insisted the move comes after deliberations during a virtual meeting of the league and the competition committee.

“It has emerged that both teams flouted the rules during the match which led to it being stopped,” he said.  Kisoi said the host violated clause 16 [b] of the federation league and the competition and the visiting team violated article 20 [20.1.3] of FIBA official rules.  In a signed letter to both team managers he insisted the replay of the mach will be attended only by the officials of the two teams without the spectators.
The KBF official said both teams will be advised on the date and time the replay of the match will take place.
Kisoi insisted the match will be replayed according to the stipulated rules of the league competition.    When the match was abandoned a minute before the final whistle KPA were enjoying a comfortable 65 points lead against 54 points of their opponents.

This was after frenzied coast side fans invaded the basketball court whenever a player from the host team scored.
