Taskforce Told to Leave Comfort Zone, Visit Places of Worship

A 17-member taskforce to review legal and regulatory frameworks governing religious organizations has been challenged to spare time and visit places of worship rather than having board meetings.

Life Prayer Centre and Church’s Pastor Ezekiel Odero’s advocates led by Cliff Ombeta urged the taskforce headed by Reverend Mutava Musyimi to conduct their soul search through visiting places of worship rather than conducting their sessions in boardrooms.

He urged them to leave their comfortable zones and move to the ground to assess the facts in their fact finding mission.

“Places of worship is where religious activities are being conducted and not at the boardrooms,” he pointed out.

Cliff insisted that places of worship is where preaching takes place and it is where they can be able assess what is at the ground.

He was addressing the media after presenting their views to the taskforce during its second sitting held at Kwale Cultural Center in Matuga Constituency in Kwale county.

The lawyer said the site visit will enable the taskforce understand how revenue collected has been used while addressing other issues.

Cliff, who was flanked by his colleague Danstan Omari, told the media the taskforce will understand the collection at the place of worship is not for self interest or  personal gains.

He told the media the move will enable the taskforce separate those who have no interest of the people at heart and those who have.

“The commissioners had applauded the pastor’s recommendation and took our notes,” he pointed out.

On his part, Danstan told the media they are optimistic that before the commissioners wind up their sitting sessions in the coast region they will be able to see the standards set at the Ezekiel’s Centre and Church, which sits on a 65-acre parcel of land in Mavueni, Kilifi North constituency.

He said he hopes and believes that the taskforce is after the standards set by the religious leaders at the places of worship.

“We want them to see the facility apart from what the media has being airing on their local media stations,” he added.
