Tussle Between NMS and City Hall Bosses explodes Again

Fresh feuds has evoked between the two agencies running the Kenya’s Capital city after a mother conceived at the entrance of Pumwani Maternity Hospital after being blocked by security people from accessing the facility.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has countered allegations by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services(NMS) boss Mohammed Badi citing Sonko of withholding funds meant for key health services.

“My administration paid over 120 Million Shillings to our health workers in July this year, following the Presidential directive to motivate those on the frontline in battling the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the issue of lack of
support and cooperation from my administration does not arise.

Given the foregoing, it is now clear that the NMS is emerging as the new face of cartels in Nairobi, determined to
not only restore ghost workers into the County Payroll, but also pay ghost suppliers in the Pending Bills that I reduced from 64 Billion shillings to 11 Billion shillings. How else do they explain their obsession with the Payroll and Pending Bills, yet there is so much work to be done to transform Nairobi???

The Nairobi City County Government retains responsibility over the transferred functions, as provided for under Article 187 (2) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya.

I therefore urge the NMS to desist from the sideshows and blame games, and focus on delivering on their mandate within the law, as we were tasked by the President a few weeks ago,” read Sonko’s press statement.

NMS which is answerable to the shameful act has kept on blaming Sonko of not releasing 253 million meant for health services.

NMS Director for Health Josephine Kibaru Mbae in a Senate’s meeting alleged that City Hall is signatory for the money set for health services crippling their operations.

At the same time Coalition for Civil Societies members led by their national chairperson Henry Shitanda have condemned the NMS of playing blame games with health of Nairobians.

They said the NMS is an illegal and incompetent entity breaching the bill of human rights by inefficient health service delivery.

“Unending strikes by county workers in all departments was never witnessed before the transfer of deeds act was signed. We want those functions retrieved for efficient service delivery in Nairobi,” stated Shitanda.

The lobby also want Badi to account for the expenditure of ksh.230 million given to his office by the Ministry of Health.
