UDA candidate Benson Mutura locked out of Nairobi Speaker’s race

Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura will not be able to defend his seat after being locked out of the contest for failing to submit a certficate of good conduct.

A letter released on Wednesday afternoon by the clerk Edward Gichana indicates that Assembly’s technical committed found out that Mutura and seven others did not meet the set requirements.

The move paves way for ODMs Ken Ngondi to clinch the seat in the voting process scheduled for Thursday August 29th.

24 people had collected forms to contest for the seat with only nine returning them for consideration.

Others who were locked out include Brian Mutie,Ahmed Subanea,Arthur Ndung’u,Samuel Mokua,Amimo Austin and Charles Kio.

Ken Ngondi who is backed by the Azimio One Kenya Coalition will now face off with Hassan Robow Mohammed for the seat.

The move has however attracted protests from Kenya Kwanza MCAs who are accusing the clerk of breaking the law.

Led by Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu,the legislators have vowed to block the swearing in ceremony if their preferred candidates are not allowed to contest.

” We want to promise that their will be no swearing in ceremony and any other activity if this illegality is allowed to go on,” Kiragu said.

Some of the candidates were locked out for failing to submit KRA clearance certificates.
