Governor Paul Simba Arati today, together with the Kisii Senator, County MP, and all elected members of parliament from Kisii County, the leadership of Kisii University and Kisii Municipality met to discuss on how to fast track the implementation of the Kenya UK Health Alliance and the Sustainable Urban Economic Development (SUED) programmes.

The Kenya UK Health Alliance (KUKHA) is an agreement signed by the two governments (Kenya and the UK) in January 2021. H.E. the former President witnessed the signing of the MoUs related to the Alliance.

One of the pillars of the Alliance is to build an East African Centre of Excellence for Health Education and Training at Kisii County (the Kisii Medical City); to be situated at Kisii University. The Centre will train healthcare workforce to UK standards and adapt various UK curricula to fit our needs.

The proposed Medical City will support other medical schools in three other universities in the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) in a hub and spoke model namely:

●Maseno University

●Masinde Muliro University

●Egerton University

The Medical City will be anchored on an ecofriendly ecosystem that is being developed by the Kisii Municipality under the UK funded Sustainable Urban Economic Development Programme.

Through the SUED programme, the Municipality has an extensive Urban Economic Plan detailing key value chain and climate resilient infrastructure development projects geared to unlock the economic potential of the County. The SUED programme is also supporting three value chains in the Municipality:

●Avocado processing

●Banana value addition

●Integrated Waste Management
