Weighbridges for transit goods reduced from 6 to 2
The government has reduced with immediate effect the number of weighbridges for transit goods and cargo along the northern corridor from six to two.
President William Ruto gave the directive saying transit goods and cargo will be weighed only at Mariakani weighbridge and designated border points.
He insisted the transit goods must be weighed twice to avoid unnecessary weight bridges along the highway which delays the delivery of goods to owners.
“My government wants to see the implementation of the directive with immediate effect,” he pointed out.
Ruto said apart from transit goods other local goods and cargo along the northern corridor must be weighed along the weighbridges.

He was speaking during a stakeholders breakfast open forum held at the port of Mombasa in Mombasa county.
The Head of State told the meeting that even if the transit goods are weighed at the port the weighing must be done twice as per the government directive.
Ruto, who was flanked by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, warned the government agencies that they should ensure his directive takes effect immediately without fail.
He added that the port charter signed in 2016 had reduced the time for goods on transit instead of going back to what it was before.
”This was as result of the police roadblocks and weighbridges for transit goods along the northern corridor,” he pointed out.
