World Cup: Kenyan Firm Secures Employment Deal In Qatar

A Kenyan human resource firm has secured a contract to recruit workers who will provide hospitality services in Qatar during the World Cup season.
Talent Quest Africa based in Nairobi was picked by consultants hired by the World Cup organising committee, the company director, Mr David Njoroge told the media.
The firm is among three other African countries which have been contracted to recruit personnel who will provide hospitality needs and other services during the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
“In Africa, only Kenya, Uganda and Ghana have been selected to provide these services because of the good relationship we have with Qatar. They will consume varieties of our services during this year’s World Cup season and that will place us of the global map”.
The World Cup kicks of in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December, 2022.
“Previously, personnel hired to offer hospitality services were procured from 17 countries but this has been narrowed down to three and Kenya is one of them”, the director said.
He explained that using the contract, Talent Quest Africa would secure up to 3, 000 job opportunities to fill in, ready for the World Cup participants.
He noted that the packages were good because they included air tickets, accommodation and medical cover for the successful candidates.
Mr Njoroge explained that the firm targeted positions including cleaners, drivers, maintenance, front office operations, cashiers, air hostesses and others to work in the airports and stadiums.
“Qatar has come up with eight new stadiums that will need a lot of manpower, especially during the World Cup”, TQA director and founder noted.
Njoroge pointed out that the global COVID-19 pandemic had wreaked havoc on many homes and families leading to poverty by loss job opportunities, especially for the youth.
Applicants for the Qatar jobs are required to submit copies of their passports, detailed CVs and certificates of good conduct to the Talent Quest Africa offices located at Information House in Nairobi.
Commencement of CV selections started this April, 2022 and will continue up to June. Applicants for high end jobs will be subjected to Skype interviews.
“Those selected as customer agents will work in ticketing areas and as baggage handlers in the airports. We also need people who will sell products such as juices, water and ice cream in the stadiums”, Njoroge told the media.
He says the company is licensed by the National Employment Authority which licenses such bonafide employment agencies.
Njoroge noted that TQA was also a member of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which helps private agencies to get employment opportunities abroad for Kenyans.
“Through this venture, we hope to get up to 10, 000 job opportunities for Kenyans by the end of this year”, he says.
According to Mr Njoroge, Kenya was picked because Kenyans were found to be malleable, they easily adapt and learn, and they were also easy to work with.
“Kenyans are agile when it comes to their work and they are easily adaptable. But above all, their English and accent is easy to grasp because it is more of British”, Njoroge says.
Further, he noted that most participants will be from Europe, America, Australia and other parts of the world, hence the need for relatively smooth communication.
Mr Njoroge says that currently, there were over 3,000 Kenyans working in the Gulf region and the company had previously sent Kenyans to work in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman and Sychelles among others.
