Azimio Walks Out As Wetangula Declares Kenya Kwanza Still the Majority Party

The Azimio Coalition- One Kenya Alliance has rejected Speaker Moses Wetangula’s Wednesday afternoon ruling declaring Kenya Kwanza Coalition the Majority Party, and has promised unnamed consequences over the ruling.

Delivering the verdict on Wednesday, 12th February 2025, Speaker Wetang’ula informed Parliament the High Court ruling did not designate which side was the Majority and the Minority but only annulled his earlier declaration, noting that the house leadership remains unchanged.

This means MP Kimani Ichung’wah continues serving as the Majority Leader while Junet will resume his Minority role.

“I have not received any further communication from Kenya Kwanza Coalition replacing the Member of Parliament for Kikuyu, the member for Kilifi, the member for South Mugirango and the Member for Marsabit County as their preferred leadership in the house.

“Similarly, I have not received communication from Azimio One Kenya Coalition party replacing the Suna East MP, the Kathiani MP, Suba North MP and Member for Embakasi West as preferred leadership in the house,” Wetang’ula stated.

However, in response to the ruling Majority Whip, Millie Odhiambo told the Speaker President Ruto’s government should not invite ODM to government if it is not ready to be broad and based.

”This government is broad but not based so don’t call us to be in a broad-based government…As Azimio we very respectfully disagree with your communication,” the Minority Whip said.

Her remarks were backed by Minority Whip Junet Mohamed who told Speaker Wetangula the Azimio Coalition had withdrawn all its members from the House Business Committee (HBC) complicating things even further for the broad-based government.
