Outgoing Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir who is ODM Mombasa gubernatorial candidate has moved to court to challenge the postponement of the gubernatorial race for a second time after the just concluded general election.

He said he can smell a sinister motive by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chair Wafula Chebukati in postponing the race indefinitely.

“I have moved to court in Mombasa under certificate of urgency to demand the election be held as scheduled next week on Tuesday,” he said.

Abdulswamad pointed out the delay in holding the election has paralyzed the operation of businesses in the county.

He was speaking during a media briefing at his constituency office in Mombasa county.  The immediate former Mvita MP confirmed he already has a team of lawyers handing the matter at the high court.

Abdulswamad argued that it was wrong for the IEBC to postpone the gubernatorial race without proper reasons.

He told journalists he is asking the IEBC to state the motive behind the postponement which is against the constitution.

“We are ready to hold the elections as the postponement of the exercise will not change the  outcome in the race against those they favour,” he pointed  out.
