Activists want appointment of Everline Shigoli as new procurement boss at KPA revoked

A Coast based lobby group has vowed to petition the national assembly to help revoke the appointment of Everline Shigoli as the General Manager in the Supply Chain and Procurement division at the Kenya Ports Authority.

The group is citing gross violation of the employment Act and KPA regulations that stipulate requisite procedure for hiring personnel to higher positions at the port.

Shigoli who has served as the Director Support Services at Kenya Coast Guards Service is believed to be under probe by various investigative agencies over alleged tender related malpractices.

According to Mr Douglass Mchahwera,the lobby group will also petition Coast leaders to advocate for transparency in hiring of officials at the port that is currently under strict focus from the national government.

“Her appointment to this position must be revoked because it doesn’t help to have someone with a tainted career profile to head such an important division,”Mchahwera said.
He claims that Shigoli skipped one managerial department thus unqualified for the position.

The lobby group is also accusing her of working with well-known business tycoons in Mombasa who have held the port at ramson for selfish gains through alleged awarding of multimillion tenders, and some activities at the Port.

Her appointment came as a result of resolutions of a special board meeting that saw career naval officer, Mr Godfrey Namadoa, appointed General Manager, Marine Operations.

The changes mean that General Manager Human Resource and Administration Mr Daniel Ogutu and engineer Mr Vincent Sidai, who was in charge of infrastructure development, were replaced.

Mr Edward Kamau, the General Manager Corporate Services, has been given added responsibilities, including overseeing Human Resource, Administration and Medical Services and Security.

Mr Anderson Mtalaki who is also under probe by investigative agencies is now General Manager Engineering Services.

This comes at a time when President William Ruto has declared to deal with state and parastatal embezzlement of funds. The head of state is scheduled to visit the Coast region with KPA as one of the main focus.

The President has already declared return of port services to Mombasa from the Naivasha dry port and plans are underway to ensure KPA operates above board.
