The appointment of Analo as Acting County Secretary in April 2023 stirred controversy, with criticisms over his competence and failure to respond adequately during vetting

Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has urged the select committee on labor and Social welfare to issue a statement regarding what he perceives as the ‘over-acting’ of Nairobi City County Secretary Patrick Analo.

Alai emphasized that the committee should investigate when the executive intends to nominate the County Secretary for assembly approval in accordance with Section 10 of the Public Appointment Act 2017.

“The chairperson should inquire into and report on when the appointing authority will be nominating for approval by the county assembly a suitable person for the County Secretary.” Attempts to reach Analo for comment were unsuccessful.” Alai remarked.

Alai accused Analo, who also serves as the Chief Officer for Urban Development and Planning, of negligence in approving buildings, leading to constructions violating zoning regulations and ignoring resident input.

“How long shall he allow the illegalities to continue? He is using authority in acting capacity to destroy the environment single-handedly. It is high time for Sakaja to take Analo out of the county.”

This outcry follows an incident where MCA Alai was assaulted at a construction site while investigating unauthorized building activities. Last year, revelations surfaced that acting director for development, Fredrick Ochanda, approved over 6000 building plans without proper oversight, raising concerns about procedural integrity.

The appointment of Analo as Acting County Secretary in April 2013 stirred controversy, with criticisms over his competence and failure to respond adequately during vetting. Despite prior roles in City Hall under former Governors Mike Sonko and Ann Kananu, Analo’s leadership is now under scrutiny amidst allegations of mismanagement and irregularities in urban development affairs.
