Big Names That Have Fallen in 2022 General Elections

Nyeri County senatorial candidates Kabando Wa Kabando and Priscilla Nyokabi are some of the politicians who were ousted from their seats.

Kabando Wa Kabando who was running on a Nark-Kenya ticket and Nyokabi on Jubilee Party ticket on Wednesday conceded defeat as vote tallying showed massive lead held by UDA candidate Wahome Mwangi.

The former Mukuruweini Member of Parliament subsequently congratulated his rival through his official twitter handle, @Wakabando.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Westlands MP candidate Nelson Havi are among other candidates that will not be setting foot in parliament as MPs.

Kega who has served for two terms hinted he had lost the parliamentary seat that he was seeking to defend.

Nelson Havi who was seeking to replace incumbent Tim Wanyonyi in Westlands said he was contented with the outcome.

He commended the incumbent, noting that the majority chose Wanyonyi.

Elsewhere, Outgoing Busia governor Sospeter Ojaamong also conceded defeat in his quest to become Teso South Member of Parliament.

In a statement, Ojaamong who was first elected governor in 2013, thanked the locals for their support during the campaigns.

“The elections are over, but our principles will endure for generations. To my family, friends, team, and campaigners thank you for the unwavering support during my reign and campaign period,” read the statement in part.

Ojaamong was battling it out with Geoffrey Omuse who was vying as an independent candidate and Mary Emase of the United Democratic Alliance- UDA.

The politician congratulated the Orange Democratic Movement- ODM candidate in the Busia gubernatorial race, Paul Otuoma, for what he termed as an imminent victory for him.

He further pledged to support the next administration and oversee a smooth transition.

Another fallen giant was Cliff Ombeta (UDA) who conceded defeat in Bonchari parliamentary seat.

The legal representative admitted that his defeat might have been brought about by having a different vision from his constituents.

However, the prominent lawyer was unbowed as he said that he would vie for the position again.

Ombeta further declared love for his home constituency while thanking all who backed his political bid.

“Bonchari always has and will be in my heart. Those who believe in me, we will keep it alive. This will not be our end politically. Our vision was probably not the same with ordinary citizens therefore, we must bring it back to them in a different dimension,” he added.

Richard Tong’i, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Nyaribari Chache Constituency in Kisii County was also ousted by Zaheer Jhanda of UDA.

Tong’i was vying for the Constituency seat under the Jubilee Party ticket having joined the National Assembly in 2013 and was subsequently re-elected in 2017.

Elsewhere, Baringo gubernatorial candidate and current Eldama Ravine MP Moses Lessonet has also conceded defeat to former governor Benjamin Cheboi.

“We are satisfied with the process of the just concluded elections, we are satisfied that it was free and fair,” said Lessonet.

In a presser held at his Kabimoi home Lessonet congratulated IEBC for conducting free and fair elections.

“We also congratulate our worthy competitor Benjamin Cheboi and wish him well as he takes Baringo to the next level,” added the Eldama Ravine MP.

Embakasi West Member of Parliament George Theuri was also defeated by Mark Mwenje of Jubilee.

Through a statement Wednesday morning, Theuri thanked Embakasi West residents for giving him the opportunity to serve them for 10 years.

Langata MP Nixon Korir also conceded defeat.

Korir, who was contesting on a UDA ticket, told his constituents that he was grateful to the people of Lang’ata, who allowed him to serve them for 5 years.

He also congratulated ODM candidate Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o for being the projected winner.

Jubilee Secretary General and Ndaragua MP Jeremiah Kioni lost his seat to UDA candidate George Gachagua.

On his Twitter account, Kioni accepted the outcome and thanked the residents for the opportunity to represent them in the National Assembly.

Nixon Korir concedes defeat in Lang'ata MP race

Meanwhile, Former Tigania West MP Dr. Kilemi Mwiria has also conceded defeat.

“Although the final vote tally will not be out until after about 1AM today, it seems like I am unfortunately losing this election going by the provisional results thus far,” he said.

Other politicians who have conceded are Moses Kuria – Kiambu (Governor), Naomi Shaban – Taveta (MP), Amos Kimunya- Kipipiri (MP) and Victor Munyaka-Machakos Town (MP).
