Former Nairobi City County Assembly Speaker Beatrice Elachi has called on Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi to come out and explain to Kenyans and Nairobi residents in particular circumstances under which he was not picked as the Azimio gubernatorial candidate.

Elachi told The Times that it is hypocritical of the MP to dramatise the matter yet he had agreed in principle to respect the decision that will be reached by President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Wanyonyi was not lucky after ODM leader Raila Odinga unveiled Polycarp Igathe and Philip Kaloki as the Governor and deputy governor candidates respectively. Esther Passaris was named the Woman MP candidate while Edwin Sifuna was unveiled as the senatorial candidate.

Wanyonyi is among the candidates who had put up a spirited campaign for the seat alongside Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Richard Ngatia.

The decision to name Igathe did not go well with Wanyonyi who has announced a break from active politics for at least two weeks.

However, according to Elachi, the ltwo-times Westlands legislator had agreed to deputise Igathe after a lengthy State House meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Tim must come out and tell Kenyans the truth because he had agreed to the deal-in fact that morning, what we were expecting was the announcement of Igathe- Wanyonyi ticket and not fresh negotiations because everything had been sealed at State House,” Elachi said on phone

Elachi further revealed that everyone in ODM was fully aware from the beginning of the year that the governor seat had been reserved for Jubilee and that even Tim Wanyonyi was made aware.

“We made efforts to make him aware and prepare him psychologically because everyone knew this was coming,” she added

This comes even as speculations are building up fast about the MP the MPs next move with reports indicating that he is considering ‘many options’.

However, Elachi has advised the MP not to allow Azimio opponents to take advantage of the situation.

This comes after ODM leader Raila Odinga was strongly criticised by Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula who accused him of asking Wanyonyi to step down.

Wetangula and Wanyonyi are brothers with the former serving as the Bungoma senator

Speaking on Tuesday while issuing nomination certificates to his party members, Wetangula chided Raila for denying MP Wanyonyi a ticket he deserved.

“The most popular candidate to become the next governor of Nairobi is Tim Wanyonyi, the MP of this area. Amemnyangany kwa nguvu like robber, na akampatia mtu mwingine. And Tim is leaving with a disability,” Wetangula said.

The Bungoma senator went on to say that the move is an indicator that the ODM leader does not mean good for Kenyans.
