Boost for Abdulswamad Shariff as DWU Throw Weight Behind His Bid

Mvita legislator Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir’s gubernatorial bid got a major boost after the Dockworkers Union [DWU] fraternity threw its  weight  behind his candidature.

The fraternity applauded his tireless efforts to stand firm with them and for progress at the port of Mombasa.    

Led by the DWU secretary general Simon Sanga they said it is wrong to dismiss his bid to succeed incumbent Hassan Ali Joho arguing that he is suitable for the seat ahead of  the 2022 polls.

He insisted  the port requires serious leaders who can transform the operations at the facility into the next level.

“Local leaders have created a lot of confusion to the extent of not recognizing what  the government has done in the coast region,” he said.

Sanga said the leaders claim there have been no  government projects yet it has put Sh 38 billion for the construction of  the  Dongo Kundu special economic zone.

He  was speaking during media briefing held at the DWU headquarters along Lumumba Road in Mombasa county.

The DWU secretary general called for consultative effort to woo investors to invest in the project.

Sanga said there is urgent need to transform the region into a special economic  zone insisting efforts to make the county into a Dubai mall has come through the project.

He appealed for consultative effort from both stakeholders and investors for the project to come to reality.

“The region requires serious leaders after the August general election to transform the port into an even better facility,” he pointed out.

The DWU spokesperson told journalists the region’s leaders must appreciate the government’s efforts for the sake of the stability of the region.  

Sang called for fulfillment of transshipment for the port to prosper despite government having  invested at the Mombasa port and that port of Lamu.
