CS Matiang’i meets North Eastern leaders, discusses security matters

Interior and Government coordination Cabinet Secretary DR Fred Matiang’I on Tuesday met with leaders from North Eastern region where they discussed security matters as pertains to the volatile region.

Flanked by his Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho, Inspector General of Police Hilarry Mutyambai and other national government officials, Matiang’I met amongst others Isiolo Governor Mohammed Kuti, Garissa’s Alo Korane, Wajir’s Mohamed Abdi Mohamud together with other leaders at Nairobi’s Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD).

Matiang’i said that the leaders agreed to act on several issues that will see peace prevails among the communities living in North Eastern.

‘This issues are not easy as some are complex and others of historical nature but we have had an honest and candid discussion on them and arrived on how to work them out going forward,’ the CS said.

The CS said that despite the same, the Government has in the past taken ‘painful correctional actions’ to curb insecurity in the region and said that the Government will not hesitate to do the same to restore sanity in the region if need arose.

He said that Kenya is a country that experiences some forms of unrest during every election cycle but said that will be addressed.

‘Some of the issues like administrative boundaries is not something that can be addressed overnight. It needs time to iron out some issues but working together we will solve them eventually,’ Matiang’i stated.

Matiang’I appealed to all leaders who attended the meeting to ensure that the measures they agreed on at the KICD are well implemented.

‘You know we cannot agree on everything  as I had some reservations on some issues but the meeting was fruitful and what needs to be done will be done,’ Matiang’i said.

He also appealed to leaders to stop pointing fingers at anyone saying that will only act to worsen the situation.

He further pleaded to all to remember that Kenya as a nation was a great family and all people need to coexist as sisters and brothers.
