Despite the government putting on a brave face over fake fertilizer in the market it has imported one million bags of fertilizer for the planting season.

The new consignment which was flagged off at the port of Mombasa to be distributed to farmers for the long rains will add to 4 million bags already distributed which bring the total number of bags to 5 million.

Agriculture Principal Secretary in charge of crop development Paul Rono defended the government saying the consignment has undergone the quality test.

He said the government had plans to distribute close to 7 million bags of fertilizer for the long rains and million bags for the short rains

The government is determined to ensure famers get best quantity fertilizer for the planting season,”  he pointed out.

Rono warned individuals who want to sabotage the country’s food security that they will face the full force of the law.

He was speaking when he witnessed the flagging off a consignment of one million metric tonnes of fertilizer at the port of Mombasa.

The PS warned time has come to an end to such schemes and the saboteurs will face the full force of the law.

Rono told the media the consignment is from Russia and the previous one was from Morocco which was procured two months ago.
