Haji’s office says it has new evidence in Governor Ali Korane’s Sh.233M graft case

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions on Monday said it has new evidence in the case in which Garissa Governor Ali Korane and four county officers are accused of economic crimes.
The matter which was coming up for pretrial hearing on Monday was djourned to April 19, 2021 to allow the prosecution provide the evidence to the defense.
Last year, Governor Korane was charged with alleged embezzling a World Bank grant worth Ksh.233 million.
He and four others were charged with conspiracy to commit an offense of economic crime; willful failure to comply with laws related to management of funds and misappropriation of public funds.
Korane and his co-accused Ibrahim Malow Nur, Mohamed Ahmed Abdullahi, Abdi Shale and Ahmed Abdullahi Aden denied the charges.
They were charged that between February 25, 2019 and September 30, 2019 within Garissa County, they mismanaged public funds allocated to the County Government of Garissa as a conditional grant for the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP).
He was arraigned at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi over alleged embezzlement of Ksh.233 million World Bank grant.
Appearing before Anti-Corruption Magistrate Douglas Ogoti, Governor Korane and four others were charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of economic crime, willful failure to comply with laws related to management of funds and misappropriation of public funds.
They were charged that between February 25, 2019 and September 30, 2019 within Garissa County they mismanaged public funds allocated to the County Government of Garissa as a conditional grant for the Kenya Urban Support Programme (KUSP) amounting to Kshs. 233.506.000.
Korane and his co-accused Ibrahim Malow Nur, Mohamed Ahmed Abdullahi, Abdi Shale and Ahmed Abdullahi Aden denied the charges.
Magistrate Ogoti released the Governor then on a cash bail of Ksh.3.2 million or Ksh.5 milllion bond and also barred him from accessing office.
