Kenyan University students win Ksh 120 Million in USA

St Paul’s University students led by Lennox Omondi have won the 2022 Hult prize global competition.

This comes barely aweek after the Kenya National Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Richard Ngatia on Thursday last week ,flagged off the students to New York ,after the team visited him in his Nairobi office.

Ngatia had offered range of advice and encouragements to the team,amove he said was timely especially to young entrepreneurs who are now going to offer job creation to hundreds of Kenyan youth.

“I want to congratulate the team for making Kenya proud ,as KNCCI will offer necessary support to students so that they may achieve this dream,”Ngatia said.

Eco-Bana is a kenyan youth led social enterprise run by 5 students. It’s focus is on youth entrepreneurs based in several Counties in Kenya to produce biodegradable, eco-friendly and hygienic sanitary towels made from banana fibers with the knowledge of Design Thinking and a concept of Green and Circular Economy.

The team won 1 million US Dollars at the Hultprize Global Finals held in Clinton Global Innitiative in New York.

In its acceptance speech ,the team has also thanked KNCCI boss Richard Ngatia for standing with them and showing alot of dedication to the whole project.

“Special thanks to Mr Richard Ngatia,president of KNCCI for showing alot of dedication on this project, advising us where necessary and showing lots of support on what’s best for the project.”
Eco Bana team said.

Meanwhile President William Ruto has also congratulated the team for winning the global finals of the 2022 Hult prize.

President Ruto celebrated the group saying the innovation is a hustlers spirit that he is keen to support.
