National Domestic Workers Chair Ruth Khikame has impored upon the Kenyan government to find a lasting solution to the Gulf challenges that domestic workers face.

Khikame who also represents KUDHEIHA said that for a long time the matter has been treated casually thereby exposing the vulnerable domestic worker either to torture or abuse.

“Most of our girls rush to the Gulf Countries especially Saudi Arabia in search of greener pastures but after working say for three months, they quit citing harassment or mistreatment. The officers assigned the task in the Kenyan consulate in the Gulf Countries ought to up their task and make sure the domestic workers are safe. “

Khikame also called for a multisectoral approach in addressing the matter once and for all and also urging our girls to shun the Saudi Arabia country which has been preying upon the helpless houseworkers.

“Our girls ought to be redeemed from this modern-day slavery which has not only deprived them of their dignity but has also put their life at risk.”
