Kilifi County Bursary Kitty Increased From Sh350 Million to Sh1 Billion

Kilifi county government is determined to ensure it’s mandatory for every child to access education.

Governor Gideon Mung’aro announced the county government will increase the bursary kitty  from Sh 350 million to Sh 1 billion in the coming financial year.

He said he is optimistic the county government plan will be a success and that with the support of well-wishers, no child will be left out in accessing education.

“We have compiled a list of children in the county who get education scholarships from well-wishers’’ he stated.

Mung’aro said he expects by end of the month a total of over 500 children will have obtained full scholarships from well-wishers.

He was speaking during a ceremony where four children got full scholarships from the Mombasa Cement Company at his office in Kilifi county.   

The governor disclosed almost 700 children who sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) scored over 350 marks adding they will ensure they have access to education before reporting day.

Mung’aro, who was accompanied by Mombasa Cement feeding and beautification program director Imtiaz Sayani, announced they have launched an education database to establish how many pupils sit for the annual national examination and the marks scored.

He added he has formed a special education committee to monitor the pupils’ performance every year. 

“The committee will liaise with every school to get their performance and report back,” he pointed out.

On his part, Imtiaz disclosed the company has pledged to support  needy pupils who are unable to access education after scoring good marks during national examinations.

He announced the company will give scholarships to four pupils from poor families.

“The company has volunteered to cater for the welfare of the parents of brighter pupils,” he added.
