Kenya Muslims National Advisory Council (KEMNAC) National chairman Juma Ngao has accused the government of treating Muslims like beggars.

He said he wondered why out of the 22 cabinet secretaries under the Kenya Kwanza  administration only two are Muslims.

‘The government should stop treating us like visitors in our own country,’ he said.

Ngao demanded to know the criteria used to appoint more non Muslims to the cabinet.

He was speaking during the celebration to mark the first anniversary since the inception of Grand Kenya MUFTI held at Royal Court hotel in Mvita constituency, Mombasa County. Tanzania’s Chairman of the Inter-Religious Peace Committee Sheikh Alhad Musa Salum graced the ceremony.

The KEMNAC National chairman lashed out at his critics when he raised the issue of Muslims being shortchanged in cabinet appointments.

Ngao said he will continue to demand for more Muslims to be included in President William Ruto’s administration.

He refuted claims he is against the regime that succeeded the Jubilee administration after the general election.

‘I am also loyal to the government of the day and my constructive criticism should not be perceived as being against the government of the day,’ he pointed out.

On his part, Tanzania’s Chairman of the Inter-Religious Peace Committee Sheikh Alhad Musa Salum urged  elected leaders within  the region to continue embracing peace within the member states.

He added peace is the brand word and it is vital in the region to spur development.

‘It’s wrong to insult your neighbor, which is against peace and cohesion,’ he added.
