Kenya Ports Authority [KPA] is an organization with talented and competitive sportspersons.

KPA Managing Director Capt Wiliam Ruto lauded the sports discipline at the state corporation displayed every year both nationally and at continental level.

He cited the KPA Basketball Ladies and Men teams which finished at the top of the Kenya National Basketball League competition regular season which have progressed to the semi-finals of the national play-offs games after convincingly eliminating their opponents in the quarter-finals phase.

“We wish the two teams the best as they compete to defend the titles they won in the previous season,” he added.

Ruto said this was clear testimony that the authority continues to invest in the promotion and development of sports in the country.

The remarks were contained in his remarks read on his behalf by KPA General Manager Operation Sudi Mwasingo during the handing over of the Kenyan flag to the volleyball team to Tunisia at a ceremony held at KPA Welfare Centre Makande in Mombasa county.

KPA confirmed 16 players and 6 officials will represent the state corporation and the country in the 2023 Men’s African Clubs Championship in Tunis, Tunisia from 9th to 22nd May 2023.

Ruto said in his speech the team had participated in the 2022 Kenya Volleyball Federation National League and finished 3rd overall which qualified them to represent the country at the prestigious championship.

He added that he is informed that the team has been engaging in intensive training ahead of this championship.

“We expect you will represent us well and put in your best efforts as we will be following up the event,” he pointed out.

The KPA boss noted that the team has been performing well in this year’s national league with an impressive coming from behind to win against KDF in its last engagement in Nairobi.

Ruto said it is noteworthy that this same team has posted consistent results emerging at position 5 overall in Africa during the 2021 and 2022 Confederation of African Volleyball championships.
