Leisure Lodge Beach & Golf Resort player wins Sweet Banana tournament

A visiting Leisure Lodge Beach & Golf Resort player emerged overall winner of the Sweet Banana coast edition tournament played at Nyali golf and country club in Mombasa county.

The one day tournament organized by Abagusii Welfare Association [AWA] Mombasa branch members saw Caroline Mokaya beat over 150 golfers to be crowned overall winner over the weekend.

Caroline, who is a businesswoman, posted 46 points to win the open tournament which attracted golfers from outside the region.

Playing off handicap 22 she scored 23 points both on the first ninth hole and the second to be declared winner.

During the tournament, which was co-sponsored by Tusker Malt and Mombasa Port Sacco among others, club golfer Omar Lewa won in the men’s category with 40 points.

Playing off 7 handicap he managed to score 19 points on his first ninth hole and 21 points on his second ninth hole.

The men’s runners up award went to Qamber Somji playing off 9 handicap who managed to score 39 points on count back

He scored 20 points on the first ninth hole and 19 points on the second ninth hole to win the award.

In the ladies category Pauline Nduva emerged the winner after posting 39 points playing off 36 handicap.

She managed to score 21 points on the first ninth hole and 18 points on the second ninth hole.

During the award giving ceremony Sweet Banana organizing committee member Daniel Nyakawgo based in Nairobi and AWA Mombasa patron Yobesh Oyaro announced plans are at an advanced stage to make the tournament inter counties from next year.
