A court in Machakos has sentenced Stephen Ngila to 30 years in prison for chopping off Jackline Mwende’s hands in 2016.

In May of 2016, Mwende who had been married to Ngila for two years, had her hands slashed with a machete at the wrist by her husband following a domestic squabble.

Appearing before Senior Magistrate Brenda Bartoo, Ngila was sentenced to 30 years in prison for attempted murder.

The magistrate said the victim did not need restitution due to the nature of the offence.

Mwende who also suffered deep cuts on her head inflicted by the spouse, said he was aggrieved by their childlessness.

He has 14-days to appeal the ruling.

Stephen Ngila was charged with attempted murder after the July 25 attack in Machakos town.

Ms Mwende had told the media that her husband had attacked her because she had reportedly failed to bear him children.
