Maiyan Resort has been declared the Africa winner of the 2022 World Luxury Hotel Awards in the category of luxury eco villas, marking the fifth consecutive time that the Nanyuki-based facility has won the accolade.

The annual World Luxury Awards were announced on 22 October 2022 at the plush Swandor Topkapi Palace, Antalya, Turkey.

“This award serves as recognition of sustained commitment to excellence in hoteliering and outstanding achievement in the international luxury hospitality industry,” noted World Luxury Hotel Awards in reference to Maiyan.

The Maiyan Group General Manager, Ann Peggy Ashira, attributed the win to votes by customers who had spent time at the luxury facility.

“The award has come consistently since 2018, we’re greatly excited and honoured by the trust that our customers have in us,” said Ms Ashira.

In 2018 Maiyan won in the category of the best new luxury hotel, in 2019 it was winner of the best private luxury pool villa category, in 2020 it was named the best luxury villa resort while in 2021 it won the category of best luxury family resort.

Maiyan is built on 146 acres of natural lush landscape overlooking Mount Kenya. It is run by the renowned Falcon Heights Management Company.

This was the sixteenth World Luxury Awards and more than 300 guests flew in from around the world to celebrate their awards.

The World Luxury Awards recognize Hotels, Spas, Restaurants and Travel establishments for world-class service excellence. Awards are presented on a country, regional, continent and global basis. Winners are selected by public vote online, providing true recognition that reflects the hard work and dedication exhibited by staff.

“Many factors play a part in determining the winner; brand, design, unique facilities and overall guest satisfaction as fed back via online reviews as well as what reflects in the votes received during the annual three week voting period. This year the focus was on outstanding environment, elegant design and international service excellence,” says Jana Stoman, Executive Manager of the World Luxury Awards.

This year’s Global Hotel of the Year Award went to Fairmont Le Château Frontenac, the Global Spa of the Year Award went to AWAY Spa W Verbier, the Global Restaurant of the Year Award went to M.B at The Ritz-Carlton Abama, and the Global Travel Establishment of the Year went to Princess Cruises.
