Nairobi Assembly’s Transport Committee Cracks Down on Unpaid Revenue from Roadside Car Bazaars

Nairobi City County Assembly Transport Committee has issued a stern warning to car sellers utilizing road reserves as display areas without remitting revenue to the county government.

Committee chairman, Maithia Musango, announced that the committee recently passed a resolution aimed at ensuring that all vehicles parked in road reserves contribute revenue to the county.

“The committee made a resolution last year to bolster revenue collection in this sector, which was significantly below expectations. Road reserves, identified as areas with inadequate revenue contribution, will no longer be tolerated,” stated Musango.

The committee has identified Ngong Road, Kangundo Road, Kiambu Road, and Kasarani as hotspots with a high number of non-compliant car bazaars in road reserves. Musango warned,

“We will take action, and don’t claim harassment – what we seek is revenue to enhance public services.”
