Nairobi ward reps begin two-day orientation, ahead of swearing in

Newly elected Members of County Assembly (MCAs) for Nairobi county have today Thursday, September 1, 2022, begun their two-day orientation process at the chambers ahead of opening this month.

In a notice to the newly elected members seen by this publication, Nairobi County Assembly clerk Edward Gichana informed them that the orientation would be on Thursday, September 1, and Friday, September 2, 2022.

“Ahead of the first sitting of the first Assembly, orientation has been organized for the elect members. The clerk of the County Assembly invites all the Members-elect for the orientation sessions which will be held at the city hall building, County Assembly wing,” the notice reads.

The orientation session will include registration of members, collection of biodata information, briefing on the use of the chamber voting system of the Assembly and briefings of the office of the clerk on the administration and legislative matters.

Speaking to press shortly after orientation, Matopeni ward rep James Koria urged fellow Mcas to now shift focus on service delivery to voters in the next five years.

“We are now just waiting for final process ,that’s swearing in then we now keep Nairobi working, the orientation process was good and it has actually confirmed that we are now duly elected leaders,”Koria said.

On his part South C Mca Abbas Khalif who is an ODM member, also thanked fellow elected Mcas and the entire leadership of the Assembly for asmooth transition process ,exuding confidence that they are ready to deliver.

The assembly of Nairobi has Azimio as the Majority with 35 MCAs for ODM while Wiper Party has four members. Kenya Kwanza Alliance’s UDA has 36 MCAs while Chama Cha Kazi has one.

Three MCAs were elected as Independent Candidates.
