The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has brought a new set of leaders at the Nairobi County Assembly.

President William Ruto-led MCAs appended their signatures last week to eject the minority leader Antony Kiragu and the minority chief whip Mark Ronaldo of Waithaka and Umoja I ward respectively.

Kiragu has been replaced by South C MCA Waithera Chege while Ronaldo’s seat went to Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni Kamau.

Muthoni was serving as the deputy minority leader before her elevation.

Deonysias Mwangi of Githurai Ward is the new deputy minority leader while Clay City Ward Rep Samora Mwaura is appointed the new deputy minority whip.

The MCAs have accused both Ronaldo and Kiragu of pursuing their interests, excluding the needs of the members.

The UDA MCAs also claimed that the two leaders have been undermining and sidelining women, especially those who were nominated to the leadership space.

Nominated MCA Joyce Kamau stated the two leaders were also selfish when allocating opportunities to their colleagues and residents of Nairobi.

In an acknowledgement letter to Nairobians, Hon Joyce Kamau stated: “I take this opportunity to acknowledge
receipt of a communication from the United Democratic Alliance under the
umbrella of Kenya Kwanza conveying its decision to execute change the Minority
Leadership in Nairobi City County Assembly. Indeed I want to express my gratitude to UDA under the umbrella of Kenya Kwanza and UDA leadership led by Dr. William Samoei Ruto for having
confidence in me to previously serve as the Deputy Minority Whip of Nairobi City
County Assembly until the new changes.
Most importantly, I want to thank the UDA Party for elevating me to serve as the Minority Whip via its letter Ref. UDA//NCA/04/2023 date 23rd October 2023 addressed to the Speaker of the Assembly. I gladly accept to serve the people of Nairobi in this new capacity with dedication and new resolve on behalf of the Party. As I transit to the new responsibilities, I want to call upon my colleagues in the Leadership to support one another in delivering on the collective duty of
serving the people of Nairobi.”

Joyce who initially served as the Chairperson for Transport Committee at the assembly has promised to diligently abide by the constitution and pursue the interest of the people and her members.
