My state department is critical when it comes to the expansion of the country’s economy.

Shipping and Maritime Affairs Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime said this after 51 principal secretaries were sworn in a week ago.

He said apart from the country’s economy he is also concerned with the coast region’s economy.

“That’s why I have decided to move out of my office where I am making policy to hit the ground,” he pointed out.

Mwadime said he is on a fact finding mission to interact with stakeholders to be able to hear the challenges they are facing.

He was briefing the media after holding a closed door meeting with Kenya Martime Authority (KMA) top management at their headquarters in Mombasa County. He also held a meeting with the authority’s board members.

The PS said the move will enable the government address challenges facing the stakeholders as a team.

Mwadime added that KMA is one of his agencies under his department and refuted claims there is no need of technorats to move out from their ivory towers to understand what is going on at the grassroots level.

In his welcome remarks, KMA board chairman Hamisi Mwaguya assured him of the board’s total support in his endeavors.

Mwaguya, who was flanked by KMA acting Director General John Omingo, said they are ready to work with him closely and with other stakeholders in the sector to ensure they come on board.

He added the main agenda is to achieve the goal as a nation saying they are excited with the ministry’s vision.
