President Uhuru Kenyatta received a grand welcome in Kisumu City on Thursday as thousands of residents lined the streets to welcome him together with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

President Uhuru Kenyatta received a grand welcome in Kisumu City on Thursday as thousands of residents lined the streets to welcome him together with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The head of state who is in the Lakeside City to inspect various National Government projects waved at the crowds that lined up the streets to welcome him but did not address the anxious crowds.

President Kenyatta is in Kisumu to inspect the projects that include the newly refurbished Kisumu Port that saw Kshs 3 billion injected into its refurbishment, the Jomo Kenyatta International Stadium situated in Mamboleo Agricultural of Kenya (ASK) Grounds and the ongoing construction of Uhuru Business Park in the town.

Earlier in the day, the Head of State together with Raila held a closed-door meeting at the Yacht Club in the town which insiders say was a consultative forum giving the President an opportunity to meet with local leaders from the Lake Region.

The leaders present include Interior and Government Coordination CS Dr. Fred Matiang’ I, Governors Anyan Nyon’go (Kisumu), Cornel Rasanga Amoth (Siaya), Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay) and Zachary Okoth Obado of Migori.

Others present were Senators, MPS, Kisumu County Assembly Speaker and several MCAs.

Residents of Kisumu County came in large numbers to welcome and show their support.
