Presidential Taskforce on Modernization of Government press Conducts Public Participation Forum

The Presidential Taskforce on Modernization and transformation of the Government Press convened a public participation forum to discuss on how the entity can be transformed into a commercially viable one.Present were various stakeholders including members of public.

“The Government Press is the designated printing press for production, Standardization, dissemination, cataloguing, authenticating and preserving of various public documents for the National and County Governments , Parliament, Judiciary, parastatals and Semi-Autonomous Government agencies (SAGAs).” Said Nzomo Mbithuka Vice Chairperson steering committee.

Since its establishment in 1895, there have been various unsuccessful attempts at ministerial level by previous administrations to modernize and transform the Government press.

The terms of reference of the Presidential Taskforce as outlined by Kenya Gazette shall be; 

a.To carry out a situational analysis on the status and level of performance of the government press in its service to the organs of both the National and county Governments, its challenges, as well as identify the opportunities that would arise from modernization and transformation.

b. To consider and review previous Government processes and reports aimed at modernizing the Government press.

c. To undertake a comprehensive study and review of highly performing government presses in other relevant jurisdictions to establish the best models, technologies, methods and practices that can be incorporated in other modernisation and transformation of Kenya’s Government press.

The policy and strategy framework for building a Government press of Kenya for the future dares to imagine a Government press that transcends its traditional boundaries, boldly embracing the future, strengthening its role as the printer andbpublisher ofbchoice for Government and embracing the commercial opportunities available for it to exploit and create value for the people of Kenya.
