Raila asks AU to investigate Nigeria violence and murder cases

The Orange Democratic Movement Party (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has asked the African Union (AU) and Nigerian authorities to investigate violence and murders in Nigeria.
In a statement, the ODM leader who is also the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development says Africa must stand up and condemn the brutalization of its citizens.
“I call upon the AU to investigate the violence that has gone on and hold the perpetrators to account. There can be no excuse for the amount of brutality on unarmed civilians protesting misconduct on the part of the police,” Raila said.
Raila condemned the protests and violence in Nigeria, saying it is ‘unacceptable and worrying’ adding that Africa should disembark from the politics of confrontation and violence and pursue restraint and engagement to resolve differences
“The brutality meted out on protesting civilians is a sad reminder of how precarious and threatened Africa’s march toward democratization, respect of rights and freedoms is,” he said.
Nigerians intensified their protests on Tuesday against the disbanded police unit Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) which led to several deaths and injuries.
