Raila leads presidential race at 47%, Ruto at 41%, IPSOS
A new poll by Ipsos suggests that Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga is ahead in the race to State House by 47 per cent. UDA’s presidential candidate Deputy President William Ruto comes in second at 41 per cent.
According to the poll released on Tuesday, Roots Party of Kenya presidential candidate George Wajackoyah has 2.9 per cent while Agano Party of Kenya’s David Mwaure Waihiga has 0.2 per cent.
According to Ipsos, Raila has more than 55 per cent and more in 18 counties while Ruto has the same threshold in 17 counties with 11 counties seen as battlegrounds. The poll shows that 85 per cent of the respondents said that they have an intention to vote while 6 per cent said they were somewhat likely to vote, 4 per cent said they will not be voting and 5 per cent said that they were unsure if they would vote or not.
The poll shows that Raila leads at the Coast at 56 per cent, lower Eastern (67 per cent), Northern Kenya (46 per cent), South Rift (52 per cent), Western (53 per cent), Nyanza North (89 per cent), Nyanza South (64 per cent)and Nairobi (60 per cent).
For Ruto, he leads in Mt Kenya at 66 per cent, Central Rift (67 per cent) and North Rift (43 per cent).
The main reasons that the respondents say they will not vote for Raila are his age (32 per cent) and the perception that he is a government project (10 per cent). The main reason that they would not vote for Ruto is because of his perceived links to corruption (35 per cent).
Some 47 per cent of the respondents say they would not vote for Mwaure because they do not know him while 14 per cent say that he is inexperienced. The respondents say that Wajackoyah supports illegal activities (20 per cent) and his manifesto is not clear (19 per cent) and this is the reason they would not vote for him.
