Few hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted that he will most likely support a NASA candidate for the top seat come 2022 when the country heads to a general election, Deputy Preident William Ruto has taken to social media saying that he only needs the support of ‘God’ to succeed Uhuru.

DP Ruto in the posts on his official social media platforms wondered what will happen of the 8 million voters who stood by the Jubilee in 2017 repeat presidential elections after NASA successfully petitioned the Supreme Court and nullified Uhuru’s win.

“EUCHO!!NGAI FAFA MWATHANI!! So, what happens to the Thurakus, the kumìrà kùmèrà contingent, the 8 million of us?” Ruto said on Twitter Tuesday morning.

“None, no youth, no woman, no man of the 8M who woke up early and voted three times for UK/WsR ticket merit support? Sawa tu! Tutajipanga na support ya MUNGU,” Ruto added.

During the 2013 and 2017 general elections, President Uhuru Kenyatta was categorical that he was seeking DP Ruto’s support for ten years after which he was to reciprocate the same for Ruto, but that is now water under the bridge.

The Head of State and his Deputy have irreconcilable political differences that were compounded by the ‘Handshake’ that brought together the President and his political nemesis ODM Leader Raila Odinga. Ruto and Raila have not been reading from the same political script since they split after the 2007 General Elections.

On Tuesday, speaking at State House, Nairobi, where he held talks with elected leaders from the Ukambani region, Uhuru said the unity of the Nasa chiefs will determine if they will form the next government.

Nasa, which unsuccessfully ran against the President in 2017, comprises Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula.

Uhuru’s remarks are now the clearest indication that he will not back his Deputy for the top seat come 2022.
