Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has come to the rescue of a single mother of three in Kariobangi who abandoned her newborn three hours after giving birth to hustle for food.

Gladys Atieno who was living in Kariobangi left the baby in her shanty house in the slums wrapped in filthy rugs to rescue her suffering children from hunger.

The kid was rescued by a community health promoter in Kariobangi and later taken to Mama Lucy hospital for medical attention.

“The infant was just three hours old and was abandoned by the mother to hustle for
food. The baby was only wrapped in filthy clothes.” A neighbor explained .

The mother of three who was on the verge of giving up and ‘vanishing’ as she faced financial torture, can now smile after Sakaja’s led team visited her with bags full of goodies comprising of house shopping, baby pampers, cooking gas, high-density mattress, 4 by 6 double decker bed among others.

She was also relocated from a shanty structure where she was staying and to a stately rental house and rent was fully paid for two months.

“I delivered on the night of Wednesday, and because i had no money to keep the infant, I was forced to go out to hustle for food and house rent. When I came back from the hustle with only Sh50, i was shocked to see emotional neighbors carrying the infant.” Gladys Atieno explained.

Gladys’ grappling lifestyle started when she was unanticipated abandoned by her husband leaving her with children to account for their well-being.

The governor promised to offer a job to the single mother.
