Schools may re-open earlier than 2021

Education Cabinet Secretary Professor George Magoha has said that schools might re-open before 2021 as he had earlier told Kenyans.
Magoha says that the move to re-open the schools before January is due to the fact that the new COVID-19 infection cases have started to decline.
Magoha says if the trend continues and the COVID-19 curve flattens, the Ministry of Education will have no option but to re-look into a new academic calendar that might start before next year.
The tough talking Magoha however says he will only allow schools to re-open if his Ministry has no doubts that school going children will be safe in schools once they re-open.
‘As government, our’s has been to open schools like yesterday. Should the situation look promising, we are ready to open the learning institutions in the interest of our children. We are also doing everything posibble to ensure that there is water and sanitizers in schools before they re-open,’ Magoha said in Migori where he toured to check on the preparedness of learning institutions in the region.
Earlier, Magoha had said the earliest the schools were to re-opne was to be in January 2021 arguing that his ministry was not ready to see school going children infected by the Corona virus. That was when the country was recording hundreds of new COVID-19 infections in a day.
Magoha was flanked by Migori Governor Okoth Obado who urged the national government to improve school infrastructure before they re-open in a bid to totally curb the spread of the virus in schools once they re-open.
