Sonko, Badi bury hatchet

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko and Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director-General Mr. Mohammed Badi have promised to work together for better service delivery to Nairobi residents.

For the first time ever, the two leaders attended a public function together. Addressing the media, Sonko and Badi said they had agreed to work together for the betterment of service delivery, saying they were sorry about the accusations and counter accusations they have traded before.

“I have apologized to my brother Badi for the evil things I have said against him. I am happy we have finally reached a truce to work together. We will now focus on service delivery to the people of Nairobi,” said Governor Sonko.

Mr Badi also committed to working together with Sonko, saying Nairobi needs their combined effort.

“We have agreed to bury the differences that have been existing between us. In fact, I will now be visiting the governor’s office. We will also be appearing in public functions together,” said Badi.

The NMS, now headed by Badi, was crafted by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March this year after Governor Sonko agreed to hand over some functions of the county government to the national government following a public outcry.

The Times had earlier reported that President Kenyatta had taken it upon himself to broker a truce between the two leaders.

Later, Sonko reneged on the agreement, saying he was offered beer at State-house before he was told to sign the Deed of Transfer. He would later go to court on claims that the deal was illegal.

Sonko and Badi have had a poor working relationship with each implementing projects separately.
