Controversial former Nairobi governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is expected to hand over his nomination papers next month to be cleared for the Mombasa gubernatorial race to succeed incumbent Hassan Ali Joho.

According to the list by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission [IEBC] Sonko is among the nine aspirants from the WIPER party expected to hand over their nomination papers ahead of the forthcoming elections.

Sonko is listed as the last person to present his nomination papers at the IEBC office in Mombasa county.

The three day event is set to start on the second weekend of next month.

Daniel Munga Kitsao who will be vying on an independent ticket will be the first to present his papers during the morning session.

Former Mombasa senator who is UDA aspirant for the gubernatorial seat, Sarai Omar will be the second person to seek clearance.

On Sunday Mombasa deputy governor William Kingi who will be trying his luck to succeed his boss on PAA ticket will be the first person to seek clearance from the local electoral body.

Vibrant Democratic Party [VDP] leader Awiti Bollo will present his nomination papers before health break on the same day.

Former Mombasa Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited Managing Director Anthony Chitavi will close the day in the nomination process.

On Monday, Mvita legislator Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir who is vying for the gubernatorial seat on an ODM ticket and little-known Said Abdalla from Usawa Kwa Wote party will present their papers.

On Tuesady UPIA aspirant Shafii Makazi will present his papers before Sonko wraps up the three day exercise with the presentation of his nomination papers.
