Suluhu to address Kenyan Parliament on Wednesday

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu will on Wednesday address a special joint sitting of Parliament that comprises of the National Assembly and the Senate.
House Speakers Justin Muturi (National Assembly) and Kenneth Lusaka (Senate) on Monday gazetted the joint special sitting.
“Notice is given to all members of the National Assembly that the Speaker of the National Assembly, in consultation with the Speaker of the Senate, has arranged for a joint sitting of Parliament to be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at 2.30 pm at the National Assembly Chamber, Main Parliament Buildings,” the notice by Muturi reads.
Lusaka cancelled the special sittings scheduled for the Senate to debate the BBI bill and consider the County Allocation of Revenue Bill, 2021, to pave way for the address.
Suluhu is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta that are aimed at strengthening the cordial relations between the two countries.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said Kenya and Tanzania are working closely to deepen ties in the area of trade and people-to-people relations.
Suluhu will be in the country for a two-day state visit.
On arrival at State House, Suluhu will inspect a guard of honour and receive a 21 gun salute before proceeding for the bilateral meetings and consultations.
Together with President Kenyatta, she will hold consultations at a business forum for the Tanzanian and Kenyan business community.
President Suluhu will also attend a session with executive women in business.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta and the First Lady Her Excellency Margaret Kenyatta will host an official State Dinner for Her Excellency at State House,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in the statement.
Suluhu made her first trip as President to Uganda, where she visited Uganda’s strongman Yoweri Museveni for a day.
She was in Uganda for bilateral trade talks that culminated in the signing of the crude oil pipeline deal between Tanzania and Uganda.
